Russell Wilson getting roasted by Patrick Star was only part of Broncos' Christmas nightmare

The 2022 Denver Broncos were already a massive disappointment, but what we saw on Sunday during a 51-14 drubbing at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams was an entirely new level of rock bottom.

It was so bad that even a children's cartoon character, Patrick Star, was flat-out roasting starting quarterback Russell Wilson following his latest interception.

That was not even the worst part of the game.

It was a complete embarrassment from top to bottom that should probably be all of the motivation ownership needs to make massive changes in the offseason.

It was a non-stop holiday parade of incompetence on all fronts.

First, let's just take into account the 51-14 loss to a Rams team that was playing with a quarterback (Baker Mayfield) that has only been on the roster for a few weeks and did not have its best player in Aaron Donald. That Rams team, by the way, was also only 4-10 on the season and had won just two of its past 11 games. They have one of the worst offenses in the league, and only once this season had scored more than 24 points in a game.

Denver allowed them to score 51.

The one thing the Broncos have had going for them this season has been a defense that has at least consistently kept them in games and given them a chance to win, only to have the offense let them down on a weekly basis. On Sunday, even that aspect of the team disappeared.

Making matters worse, there was also a fight on the sidelines between the team's offensive line and its quarterbacks.

Emotions continued to boil over after the game when the Broncos at least turned their aggression to the other team with Randy Gregory getting into a fight with a Rams offensive lineman.

Just embarrassment after embarrassment. Not exactly the way any team wants to spend their holiday.

The entire Broncos season has been embarrassing after starting with such promise and high hopes. They knew they were bringing back a good defense, and thought they were finally adding the final piece of the puzzle by acquiring Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks in a massive trade that was followed by a long-term contract extension.

Wilson has proven to be only a fraction of his former self while the trade (and ensuing contract extension) seem like an all-time bad blunder. Making matters worse, first-year head coach Nathaniel Hackett has seemed to be in way over his head all season and has done nothing to suggest he is ready to be an NFL head coach.

All of that shined through crystal clear on Sunday. Things are not likely to get better as they close the regular season with back-to-back games against the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers.
