Former NFL running back Trent Richardson was not in camp on Sunday as the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders opened camp. On Sunday morning, it was announced on CFL.ca that Richardson was on the team’s suspended list.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced a number of transactions Saturday morning as training camps opened. Among them was placing RB Trent Richardson and DL Eddie Steele on the suspended list and releasing RB Cameron Marshall.”

The news was not unexpected.

Earlier in May, Roughriders coach Chris Jones said (per CFL.ca) that Richardson was not expected at the beginning of camp. Jones noted that “Right now Trent’s got some situations going on at home so we’ll just have to see where that goes.”

Richardson had an effective season for Saskatchewan in 2017. In four games, he carried the ball 48 times for 259 yards with two touchdowns.

Richardson played in the NFL from 2012-2014 for the Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts. He was in the camp of the Oakland Raiders in 2015 and Baltimore Ravens in 2016, but was cut before the regular season both times.
