Report: Seahawks Interested in Ex Cowboys DT
© Tim Heitman, USA TODAY

Defensive line was a weak spot for the Seattle Seahawks last season, and as such, they are working to improve it in free agency.

After re-signing trade deadline acquisition Leonard Williams earlier this week, the Seahawks now have interest in free agent defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins, per ESPN's Brady Henderson.

Hankins, an 11-year NFL veteran who turns 32 at the end of March, spent the past season and a half with the Dallas Cowboys. He started all 14 games he appeared in last season, recording 27 total tackles, two tackles for loss, three sacks and two passes defended.

The Ohio State product has played for a number of teams throughout his career. He got his start as a second-round pick by the New York Giants in 2013, then played for the Indianapolis Colts and Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders before being traded to the Cowboys in October of 2022.

Throughout his career, Hankins has 403 total tackles, 39 tackles for loss and 17.5 sacks. His greatest strength is easily his run-stuffing ability, as he uses his 6-2, 320-pound frame to great effect.

In each of the past two offseasons, Hankins signed one-year deals worth around $1.3 million each. If the Seahawks can land him for a similar price, he should be a steal for them up front.
