Report: Los Angeles Rams Boosting Obliterated Running Back Group; Adding Former College Star to Active Roster – Week 7
Steve Roberts-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Rams have scooped running back Myles Gaskin off the Minnesota Vikings practice squad and placed him on their active roster. Gaskin has been on and off the Minnesota practice squad, playing one game and logging no offensive reps.

Los Angeles snagged the fifth-year pro after injuries hit the running back room in droves in their Week 6 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Starter Kyren Williams suffered an ankle injury late in the fourth quarter, and head coach Sean McVay expects his lead rusher to miss at least one game. Meanwhile, backup Ronnie Rivers suffered a PCL strain that could sideline him for at least four games. He is a candidate for the injured reserve.

Myles Gaskin: NFL Career

Myles Gaskin, initially drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL draft, started four years for the Washington Huskies in the Pac-12. Gaskin starred in college, rushing for 5,323 and 57 touchdowns on 945 attempts. He also added 65 receptions for 465 yards and five receiving touchdowns. The five-foot-nine running back earned All-Pac-12 honors three times, including being named to the first team as a sophomore.

However, the Washington product struggled with the Dolphins, averaging just 3.8 yards per rush attempt across four seasons. Gaskin took 13 carries for 80 yards in the preseason while also catching all seven of his targets, but got released by Miami in late August. The 26-year-old joined the Minnesota Vikings but has sat behind Alexander Mattison, Ty Chandler, and the newly acquired Cam Akers this season.

Los Angeles Rams: Running Back Options for Week 7

Gaskin will look to shore up a Los Angeles Rams running back attack short Kyren Williams and Ronnie Rivers. Williams has been a workhorse for the Rams, accumulating 561 scrimmage yards and seven touchdowns in six games. Meanwhile, Rivers has operated as the backup to Williams, taking 13 carries for 57 yards.

The Rams will have Gaskin, rookie Zach Evans, and journeyman Royce Freeman in the backfield in Week 7. Evans has just four carriers this season but was a sixth-round pick by the Rams in the 2023 NFL draft. He ran for 936 yards and nine touchdowns on 6.5 yards per attempt with the Ole Miss Rebels last season. Meanwhile, Freeman was just recently activated off the Los Angeles practice squad. The Oregon product has played three games with the Rams this season, all on special teams. He played for the Houston Texans in 2022, rushing for 117 yards on 41 carries.
