Receiver-needy Packers discussed trading for ex-first-rounder Jalen Reagor

It is no secret that the Green Bay Packers were aggressively looking to upgrade their wide receiver room since the February trade of Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders.

They added rookie wideouts Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs and Samori Toure in the second, fourth, and seventh rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft, respectively, and according to a recent report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Packers had their eye on another WR during the draft.

“Pretty quietly the Eagles shopped [Jalen] Reagor for months,” Rapoport said. “At one point, I thought they were going to end up dealing him to the Packers around the time of the draft. Instead, it is the Minnesota Vikings.”

Reagor, the 21st overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, was ultimately shipped to the Minnesota Vikings on Aug. 31 for a seventh-round pick in 2023 and a conditional fifth-round pick in 2024. He caught 64 of his 111 total targets for 695 yards and three touchdowns in two years with the Eagles.

Though he failed to live up to expectations in Philadelphia, Reagor would have given Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers a first-round talent to work with opposite No. 1 target Allen Lazard.

Instead, Green Bay begins the 2022 season with just three receivers who have at least two seasons of NFL experience — Lazard, Randall Cobb and Sammy Watkins. Lazard and Cobb combined for 68 receptions, 888 yards and 13 touchdowns last season.

With Adams’ departure, the Packers must replace his 123 receptions, 1,553 yards and 11 touchdowns from a season ago.

Reagor was the second notable receiver the Packers were publicly linked to in the past two weeks. ESPN’s Dan Graziano also noted Green Bay was in on former Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Laviska Shenault, who was ultimately traded to the Carolina Panthers.
