Ravens QB Lamar Jackson wins second MVP award, joining elite company

Baltimore Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson received the highest individual honor in the NFL on Thursday, earning the Associated Press Most Valuable Player award.

It's the second MVP for Jackson, who joined an extremely exclusive group with the win. He is only the fourth player in NFL history to take home multiple MVPs before turning 28 and the second over the last two seasons after Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes added another to his mantle in 2022.

Jackson joins Brett Favre, Jim Brown and Mahomes. Out of the bunch, Jackson is the youngest to win two MVP awards at 27 years and 32 days old.

According to Doug Clawson of CBS Sports, Jackson is the first quarterback since Favre in 1996 to win MVP without a 1,000-yard runner or receiver. The previous 22 QBs to win MVP had at least one.

Overall, Jackson is the 11th player in NFL history to win multiple MVPs and the 10th quarterback. Every eligible player on the list has a bust in Canton.

Less than a year ago, Jackson's future with the Ravens was uncertain and for a time, it looked like he'd be continuing his career elsewhere. However, he bet on himself, signing a $260 million extension to stay in Baltimore. Now, only a few months later, he's hoisting another MVP trophy.

After receiving the award, Jackson joked about last offseason's chaos that nearly resulted in a trade.

"I want to thank my organization -- Baltimore Ravens for, you know, getting this deal done," Jackson said.
