Ravens' NIck Boyle out for season after suffering gruesome knee injury vs. Patriots

The Baltimore Ravens were upset by Cam Newton and the New England Patriots on "Sunday Night Football," but they dropped more than just their record.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh confirmed after the game that Nick Boyle suffered a season-ending left knee injury in the third quarter of Sunday's 23-17 loss, according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley.

After making a four-yard catch, Boyle took a hit to his left leg, causing it to bend awkwardly. Patriots linebacker Terez Hall went right into the side of Boyle's knee, and players immediately signaled for trainers to come onto the field.

Boyle is widely considered one of the best blocking tight ends in football, though he did enter Sunday's game as Baltimore's sixth-leading receiver. The 27-year-old has 14 receptions for 113 yards and two touchdowns on the season.

Boyle wasn't the only player to go down with an injury on Sunday. Nose tackle Brandon Williams suffered an ankle injury early and did not return to the game while cornerback Terrell Bonds was listed as doubtful to return with a knee injury.

The Ravens already were without star defensive end Calais Campbell, who was inactive with a calf injury.

With Sunday's loss, the Ravens dropped to 6-3 on the season and they now likely don't have a chance of catching the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North.
