Ravens must add to thin room following latest injury

The Ravens lost the player they could least afford to lose on Wednesday, and they are now scrambling to find an answer for the position by the start of the 2023 season.

All-Pro CB Marlon Humphrey suffered a foot injury that requires surgery and is expected to be out for over a month, which means he will miss at least a couple of Baltimore's first two games.

"It's not going to be a long-term deal," head coach John Harbaugh told reporters. "It's been a lingering thing and they took a look at it and said, 'That's something we want to take care of now instead of waiting.'"

It is a significant blow to the Ravens' defense as they are already very thin at the position. Rock Ya-Sin, who is expected to be CB2, is also week-to-week after suffering a knee injury.

That leaves Jalyn Armour-Davis, Kevon Seymour, Daryl Worley and Arthur Maulet as the remaining healthy cornerbacks on the team. They are certainly not names that provide fans with a ton of confidence.

Baltimore is doing its due diligence, however, hosting veteran CB Ronald Darby on Thursday and veteran CB William Jackson last Friday. It's likely they won't be the only ones visiting the team as well.

However, Harbaugh did admit that it won't be easy to fill the void left by Humphrey.

"But you have to understand, it's late. Most guys are on teams right now," he added. "Part of that with the guys who are veteran guys is, who's in shape? Who's been working? Who really wants to play this year? Because if you're a guy that's out, and you got some pedigree, you got to be in shape and ready to go. It's really on those guys to be ready to play."

The Ravens begin the season by hosting the Texans, but it seems it will be an uphill battle as they travel to Cincinnati to face the Bengals in Week 2 where they'll be without Humphrey against Ja'Marr Chase and company.
