Ravens agree to contract extension with 2020 draft pick

The Ravens locked up one of their young, up-and-coming players who was entering the final year of his rookie deal on Wednesday.

Baltimore agreed to sign DT Broderick Washington, a 2020 fifth-round pick, to a three-year, $15.75M contract extension.

Before Wednesday, five of the Ravens' six interior defensive linemen were on one-year deals or entering the final year of their rookie contracts. That is no longer the case.

Washington gets rewarded after not missing a game in 2022 and posting a career-high 49 tackles, one sack and six passes defensed.

"I don't know that there's a person in this building that works harder than Broderick Washington," assistant head coach/defensive line Anthony Weaver said. "If you even look [at] his body from when he got [here] to how it is now, he looks completely different. You talk about a guy that's taken every bit of coaching and then some – it's him. So, I'm not surprised by any of his success, and I would expect more."

The 26-year-old will play a large role in Baltimore's young defense this season after the team parted ways with veteran leader Calais Campbell this offseason.

But Campbell seems to believe in Washington, praising him after he was cut from the team.

"I told Broderick Washington, 'Man, you're playing so good you're going to get me cut.' I told him that at the beginning of the year," Campbell said. "He's a great young player."
