Raiders' Carl Nassib has highest-selling jersey since coming out as openly gay

The football community has, for the most part, been loudly supportive of Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Carl Nassib since he became the first active NFL player to come out as openly gay on Monday.

ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted Tuesday that Nassib is now responsible for the top-selling NFL jersey across the Fanatics network since making his announcement.

Along with explaining his reasoning for why he chose now to unveil his news, Nassib also said he's pledging $100,000 to The Trevor Project, a nonprofit that focuses on preventing suicides among LGBTQ youths. The NFL confirmed Tuesday it is matching that donation.

"The NFL is committed to year-long efforts around diversity, equity, and inclusion," the league said in a statement shared on its website. "We proudly support the LGBQT+ community and will continue to work alongside The Trevor Project and our other community partners to further enhance our collective work and commitment to this space."

Raiders owner Mark Davis, coach Jon Gruden, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, and others from around the league have shared messages of support for Nassib since his Instagram post first went viral.
