Police say video evidence confirms allegations against Alvin Kamara

The NFL community was stunned to learn Sunday night that New Orleans Saints All-Pro running back Alvin Kamara was arrested just hours after he participated in the Pro Bowl in Las Vegas amid allegations that he assaulted an individual the previous day. 

According to Mike Triplett of ESPN, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a report released Monday that video evidence shows Kamara "punching a man approximately eight times before Kamara's associates proceeded to stomp on him several more times on the ground" inside of a Las Vegas casino on Saturday morning. 

That individual was knocked unconscious and suffered an orbital fracture to his right eye and also other injuries. Kamara, meanwhile, was arrested at Allegiant Stadium following the Pro Bowl but was released after he posted bail late Sunday night. Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Kamara had his first court appearance regarding the alleged incident at 1:30 p.m. local time on Monday. 

Triplett adds Kamara is also due in court on March 8. The Saints hadn't yet commented on the matter as of Monday afternoon. 

Police say video evidence seems to back the man's story that he began a conversation with a group of people at approximately 6:30 a.m. local time as he was exiting a casino. He approached an elevator along with that party but was stopped by Kamara, who put his hand on the man's chest. The man pushed Kamara's hand off his chest, and the ball-carrier is accused of pushing that man before the alleged assaults took place. 

According to Triplett, Kamara told police he punched the man because he believed the individual was "running away and had done something to his group." Police say the video surveillance proves the man wasn't running. 

The 26-year-old star could ultimately face a suspension under the NFL's personal conduct policy, although he may have bigger things to worry about before the league looks to punish him.
