Panthers reportedly reach out to Richard Sherman following Jaycee Horn injury

The Carolina Panthers have reportedly reached out to veteran cornerback Richard Sherman following Jaycee Horn's injury, according to The Athletic's Joe Person.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Friday that Horn could miss up to three months with a broken foot. He suffered the injury in Thursday's 24-9 win over the Houston Texans.

Horn, the eighth overall pick in this year's draft, was named a starter and has played a significant role in Carolina's top-ranked defense this season. He has one interception, one pass defensed and five tackles in three games.

Sherman remains unsigned through the first three weeks of the season. The five-time Pro Bowler has recently been in contact with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer served as the Seahawks' director of college scouting when Seattle selected Sherman in the fifth round in 2011. Fitterer remained with Seattle through Sherman's time with the franchise, which ended in 2017.

Part of the reason why Sherman remains unsigned is because he was arrested in July for attempting to force his way into his in-laws' residence. He was charged with misdemeanor of criminal trespass with a domestic violence designation and has since been undergoing therapy.

Sherman spent the last three seasons with the 49ers after beginning his career with the Seahawks. He was limited to five games last season due to various injuries but was named a Pro Bowler in 2019 after recording three interceptions, 11 passes defensed and 61 tackles.
