Packers' Jordan Love: 'I'll take what I'm given and run with it'

The Green Bay Packers spent a first-round pick during the 2020 NFL Draft on quarterback Jordan Love to presumably have Love eventually replace future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers atop the depth chart. Rodgers clearly wasn't too keen on this plan, as he's remained with the Packers and won the past two NFL Most Valuable Player awards. He then signed a massive extension with the organization in March. 

Rodgers attended the Packers' mandatory minicamp this week and declared on Tuesday he "definitely" plans to retire as a member of the franchise. The 38-year-old who doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon added at that time he's "focused on this season" and doesn't "want to commit to something" beyond that at this point. His status undeniably leaves Love in limbo, as the Packers will have to make a call about the fifth-year option attached to the 23-year-old's rookie contract next spring. 

Per Jason Wilde of the Wisconsin State Journal, Love recently admitted he can only do so much to tune out such noise ahead of the summer months. 

"I am human," Love remarked. "And that stuff’s going to be there, regardless. But I think I do a pretty good job at compartmentalizing it. I don’t even want to think about that stuff.

"I can’t control what’s going on, I have no idea what might happen. So rather than stressing about things that might happen, things that might not happen, I’m just here right now. I’ll take what I’m given and run with it." 

Theoretically, Rodgers could ride off into the sunset of retirement as soon as next winter if he and the Packers hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy in February. If he doesn't, though, Green Bay will likely look to shop Love to any would-be buyer at just about any price.
