Packers' Jonathan Owens mocked for seeming flop against 49ers

Jonathan Owens was mocked on Saturday night for what some thought was a flop he committed against the San Francisco 49ers in his Green Bay Packers’ divisional round playoff game.

Owens is a safety for the Packers and also plays on special teams. He was on the field for kickoff coverage in the third quarter and then drew a penalty.

Owens got into it with 49ers offensive lineman Trent Williams, who was coming onto the field with San Francisco’s offense after the kickoff. Williams shoved Owens, who hit the turf at Levi’s Stadium.

Williams was called for a personal foul, which resulted in the 49ers beginning the possession from their 13. They ended up going three-and-out and punting.

That did appear to be a flop on the surface. However, Williams is extremely strong and one of the best blockers in football.

It’s quite possible that a shove to the shoulder from a guy as powerful as him would cause someone 100 pounds lighter to hit the turf.
