One Bears second year player is taking advantage of injuries. With the Bears currently down four wide receivers due to Injury it’s a golden opportunity for someone to show the new coaching staff what they can do. It seems Dazz Newsome maybe taking that opportunity. He’s been making some plays when the Bears are in desperate need of receiver help.

Razzle dazzle

Newsome was a sixth round pick of the Bears last year. With the offense sputtering last season Newsome didn’t really see the field until late in the season. He didn’t put up big numbers when he played but watching him there were things to take notice of. His speed jumped out at me immediately. First on punt coverage, flying down making plays on returners. Then himself showing flashes of why he returned punts in college. If you don’t know anything about Newsome there are a few numbers about him that may shock you.

Newsome in college

You can’t teach speed, and that is Newsome’s strength. He is what they call a burner. At the combine he ran a 4.38 which is the exact same time as teammate Darnell Mooney. He went to school at North Carolina with his freshman season being the first season after Trubisky left. His Junior year was his best and it was a good one. Over 1,000 yards recieving and 10 touchdown receptions. Newsome isn’t big, at just 5’11 190 pounds he’s not really built for over the middle, but he can stretch the field. With defenses having to worry about Darnell Mooney, it can open up things for Newsome if he gets his chance. This being just his second year the sky is still the limit.

Dazzling in camp

For Dazz, nothing from last season matters now. New coaching staff to make new impressions on. With the rash of injuries to Bears recievers, he’s made a very good impressions thus far. Making some big plays and getting noticed. The Bears have an excellent recievers coach Tyke Tolbert . If anyone can get the most out of Newsome it’s him. He’s coached some greats in the NFL. He’s coached for Arizona, Buffalo, Carolina, Denver, and the Giants. This Saturday the Bears play the Chiefs in the first preseason game. Keep an eye out for Dazz Newsome making the most of his opportunity. Especially with his former coach Matt Nagy on the sidelines.
