NFL insider believes Steelers could trade one of their QBs

The Steelers may have the deepest quarterback room in the NFL, which has one insider believing they will trade one of their quarterbacks to a QB-needy team.

The Jets lost QB Aaron Rodgers for the season with a torn Achilles and NBC Sports' Mike Florio believes Pittsburgh could trade one of its backups to New York.

"The Steelers are one of the few teams that have the extra backup, and they could do it and say '[Mitch] Trubisky and [Mason] Rudolph could back up [Kenny] Pickett,' or vice versa," Florio said. "The danger is depending upon what their approach would be if they ride with Zach Wilson."

It would make sense for the Jets, who certainly had Super Bowl aspirations entering the 2023 season.

Quarterback Zach Wilson is the next man up but has underwhelmed since entering the league as the No. 2 overall pick in 2021. The 24-year-old has thrown for 4,162 yards, 16 touchdowns and 19 interceptions in his career.

With the defense New York has, it just needs a quarterback that won't turn the football over, which Wilson has struggled with. Enter Trubisky and Rudolph.

Neither player will jump off the screen, but both have a better touchdown to interception ratio than Wilson. Trubisky has 68 touchdowns and 43 interceptions in his career while Rudolph has 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Of course, it will come down to what the compensation would be. It's unlikely the Steelers would just hand Trubisky or Rudolph over for pennies. But if the Jets were to offer a mid-round pick in return, it would be a tough offer for Pittsburgh to refuse.

For now, it seems unlikely as head coach Robert Saleh said, "Zach is our quarterback." But if New York drops a couple of games, it could become a realistic scenario.
