Newly Released Safety Could be Bolts Target

The Los Angeles Chargers are coming off a season where their defense was among the worst in the NFL. Their defense was hit hard by injuries and played a massive role in the team not being able to hang with tougher opponents.

However, things should drastically change this upcoming season with their new regime. The Chargers coaching staff is brand new, and now they'll look to get the right pieces on the field.

Tracy Walker III, a recently cut safety from the Detroit Lions, could help bolster the Chargers' secondary.

ESPN's Adam Schefter was among the first to report on the cut.

The team announced via social media, and Walker said his goodbyes via Instagram.

The safety is 29 years old, having played in all 17 games for the Lions with six starts. He recorded 59 tackles, two passes defended, one force fumble, and one sack.

Walker is a former third-round pick in 2018 from Louisiana and played a big role in the Lions' secondary in his first four years.

The Chargers could use all the help they could get in the secondary. The Bolt's secondary was among the worst in the league, giving up 249.8 opponent passing yards per game and 7.8 opponent yards per pass, rankings 29th and 28th, respectively.

Walker, who is still relatively young in terms of his position, could provide some spunk to L.A.'s secondary. This is the first of many cuts underway in the NFL. The Chargers will have options to choose from in the coming days.
