New Orleans Saints Get Mixed Bag of Injury Updates on Taysom Hill, Juwan Johnson
Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Saints will be missing a key player in Week 14 after they received some injury updates on their tight ends Taysom Hill and Juwan Johnson.

Hill, who was listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers, is reportedly not expected to suit up in the contest as he continues to deal with a foot injury, as well as a left hand ailment, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

It will be Hill’s first missed game of the campaign, and considering how much impact he has on the team, the Saints will surely miss him.

For what it’s worth, however, Hill’s absence didn’t come as a big surprise after he missed the whole week and didn’t participate in any team practice as a result of his injuries.

While it will be hard to replace Taysom Hill, a versatile tight end who has been one of the main offensive weapons of the Saints, the blow of his likely absence will at least be lessened by the fact that fellow TE Juwan Johnson is expected to be available.

Johnson was initially listed as questionable as well due to a quad injury. However, he should be healthy enough to suit up on Sunday.

Taysom Hill’s Absence Bad Timing for Saints

Unfortunately for the Saints, Taysom Hill’s injury couldn’t come at the worst possible time. They are on a three-game skid and currently 5-7 on the season, though they still have a chance to claim the no. 1 spot in the NFC South and make the playoffs with the top-seeded Atlanta Falcons only at 6-6.

With Hill out, however, the task gets more difficult. The 33-year-old veteran is the Saints’ leader in total touchdowns with five–having recorded four receiving TDs and one score on the ground. With that said,  they will really need Alvin Kamara to step up and carry the scoring load for them.

The good news for the Saints is that they face a Panthers team that has won just one game so far this 2023 season. Carolina has lost their last five games, and it doesn’t look like they have anything figured out  as they start life with Bryce Young as quarterback.

It remains to be seen how long Hill will  be out, but hopes are high that he won’t be sidelined for long. After the Panthers, the Saints face the New York Giants, Los Angeles Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons in their last four outings.
