Mom shares update on concussion Jets' Zach Wilson suffered vs. Dolphins

Lisa Wilson, the mother of New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson, offered some clarity about how and why her son was pulled from this past Sunday's 30-0 loss at the Miami Dolphins. 

"Yesterday was a little bit rough," Lisa Wilson explained in a video shared via her Instagram story on Monday, per Christian Arnold of the New York Post. "Zach took some really, really big hits and he fought through it and really tried to just stay out on the field. He didn’t want to go out, he didn’t want to stop playing — so he didn’t tell the sideline, the coaches, the trainers how he was really feeling and tried to just fight through it and be out there for his guys."

Confusion arose during Sunday's blowout because it was first reported that Zach Wilson exited the game before halftime due to issues related to dehydration. However, it was later said that the Jets ruled the 24-year-old out with a concussion after he endured four sacks in the contest's opening half. 

"Finally, after one more blow to the head, he really started having problems with blurred vision and his depth perception," Lisa Wilson continued about Zach. "He really started worrying that he was actually going to hurt his team if he stayed out there because his vision was not right and how you can’t play like that."

According to the Jets' website, head coach Robert Saleh told reporters on Monday afternoon that he wasn't "exactly sure on the communication" and that "it came from up top that they wanted to review for a possible head injury" regarding Zach Wilson's status on Sunday. The third-year pro was still in the concussion protocol as of Saleh's update but could start this coming Sunday's home game against the 4-10 Washington Commanders if he's cleared. 

With the 5-9 Jets now eliminated from postseason contention, Saleh has little reason to rush either Zach Wilson or injured signal-caller Aaron Rodgers back into action. Saleh said Monday that backup Trevor Siemian will get the nod versus Washington if Zach Wilson doesn’t clear the protocol by Sunday.
