Mock draft signals Vikings are looking for successor to Kirk Cousins

The future of Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins is murky, so it makes sense for Minnesota to find his successor this offseason.

In his latest mock draft , Pro Football Focus's Trevor Sikkema predicted the Vikings will select Oregon's Bo Nix with the 21st overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft.

"Unless the Vikings continue to ride with pending free agent Kirk Cousins, they'll be heavily interested in the 2024 QB market," Sikemma wrote of the selection. "Nix once again had a very impressive year as Oregon's signal-caller. He finished the season with a 92.2 passing grade and an 87.3 passing grade under pressure, making only one turnover-worthy play under pressure all season."

The Athletic's Dianna Russini recently reported Minnesota wants to try to re-sign Cousins even though he suffered a season-ending right Achilles tear in a Week 8 win against the Green Bay Packers.
Even if the Vikings and the 35-year-old agree to a new deal, they should still draft a QB. The Athletic's Greg Scholz noted it can take six months to fully recover from an Achilles tear, and "older athletes tend to have longer recovery times."

Minnesota backup QB Joshua Dobbs — who threw four picks in a Week 12 loss to the Chicago Bears — enters free agency this offseason. Rookie Jaren Hall — a fifth-round pick out of BYU — has only started in one game but suffered a concussion, and Nick Mullens has a 5-12 starting record. Clearly, the Vikings need more QB depth.

Through 13 games, Nix led the FBS in completion percentage (77.2) and was second in passing yards (4,145). Per Alec Lewis of The Athletic, Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell prioritizes accuracy. Perhaps Minnesota is the right landing spot for the Ducks QB.
