Metcalf Preaching 'Consistency' For Playoff-Like Battle vs. Eagles

People crave consistency in professional sports, but for Seattle Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf, that's alluded the team this season.

As Seattle sits at 6-7, there have been solid performances from Pete Carroll's team, and others that they'd like to forget.

It is that consistency or lack thereof that Metcalf thinks has hindered the team from being who they know they can be, something that will need to change when Seattle welcomes the Philadelphia Eagles (10-3) to Lumen Field on Monday night.

“I think in a lot of the games we played we’ve showed spurts of that," Metcalf said. "I think we’re just losing the consistency aspect of being the team we want to be because if you turn on a lot of the games we are scoring, we’re stopping teams, and our special teams are rolling. But we just got to do it at a more consistent basis.”

Prior to the season, some had the Seahawks not only as a playoff team but as a Super Bowl dark horse. Now, 13 weeks into the season, Seattle is fighting for its life to simply punch its ticket into the postseason.

While there have been some superb performances for the Seahawks this season, like down-to-the-wire wins over playoff contenders in the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns, there's also been some embarrassing losses to the Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Rams (Week 1).

Now with four games remaining in the regular season, Metcalf is keeping it simple when it comes to addressing the root of the inconsistency.

“Everything goes back to practice in my opinion," Metcalf said. "If we practice like we’re a consistent team and we hone in on every detail I don’t think a lot of the details will escape us, or we’ll lose them when we line up to play football.”

While the Eagles are reeling off back-to-back blowout losses, they are still a formidable team. When the Seahawks have shown that consistency throughout a game, they can go toe-to-toe with nearly any team in the league, like they did in Week 13's 41-35 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

With their playoff hopes on wafer-thin ice, Seattle needs to find that consistency it craves, and hope that it returns with a vengeance when the Eagles walk into Lumen Field.
