Luke Getsy Talks About TE Michael Mayer

On Friday, the new offensive Las Vegas Raiders coordinator, Luke Getsy, had his first press conference with the team.

Getsy could talk and share his thoughts on many Raider players, including how he will evaluate the offense this offseason and much more.

One of the players Getsy had the chance to talk about was tight end Michael Mayer. Getsy has experience working with young tight ends and using them in the offense he runs. While being the Chicago Bears' offensive coordinator for two seasons, Getsy had the chance to work with young tight end Cole Kmet.

In his fourth season with the Bears, Kemet finished with 73 catches for 719 yards and scored six touchdowns in 17 games.

Getsy had the opportunity to express his impressions of Mayer and sees comparisons between him and Kmet at the tight end position.

"I think the cool thing about him is that he is slightly like Cole. He's a cool blend at tight end, he can do a little bit of everything right. Anytime that you are evaluating players, you're trying to see how diverse they can be, the flexibility for a player just allows you to be more dynamic as an offense and I think that's what's exciting about working with Michael."

The 2023 NFL second-round draft pick from the University of Notre Dame, Mayer finished his rookie season with 27 catches for 304 yards and scored two touchdowns.

It will be fascinating to see how Getsy will use Mayer in the Raiders' offense and see him develop as a second-year tight end.

From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
