Lions release veteran WR Breshad Perriman

The Detroit Lions have released veteran wide receiver Breshad Perriman, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Perriman signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Lions in March and was expected to fill out a receiving group that also includes Javon McKinley, Tyrell Williams and Geronimo Allison.

However, the 27-year-old struggled during training camp and the preseason, battling for a position with Allison, Tom Kennedy and Victor Bolden.

Perriman also dealt with a hip injury this summer and Lions head coach Dan Campbell revealed last week that his roster spot could be in jeopardy.

The Central Florida product appeared in 12 games for the New York Jets last season, catching 30 passes for 505 yards and three touchdowns. He has also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens.
