Larry Izzo Praises Punter Tress Way: 'Best In The Business!'

The Washington Commanders have a lot of fresh energy surrounding the team and organization with the hiring of Dan Quinn and his experienced coaching staff.

Among the partnerships that will forge between the coaches and players is the one between special teams coordinator Larry Izzo and punter Tress Way, the longest-tenured player on the roster entering his 11th season with the team. It's a partnership that Izzo is particularly excited to cultivate.

“We coached him in the Pro Bowl a few years ago," Izzo said. "So, I got to know him a lot there. Great dude, great pro. One of the best in the business, so I'm excited to be here working with him.”

Way, 33, has punted for Washington in every game since 2014 and is still on top of his game. In 2022, Way was named to the second Pro Bowl of his career. And in Week 9 of this past season against the New England Patriots, Way was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after connecting five punts inside the 20-yard line.

Way's game and duties won't change too much with Izzo in town, but a special teams coordinator needs to have a strong relationship with their punter, and it seems the duo already have a head start in that department.
