Jim Harbaugh may have tipped his hand when it comes to who the Chargers will select in the NFL Draft

It is clear the Los Angeles Chargers have multiple needs they could attack early in the draft.

The good news for them is that quarterbacks very well could go the first four picks with the Arizona Cardinals trading the fourth pick to a team that needs a quarterback.

With that being said, the Chargers could get the non-quarterback part of the draft started and take a pick from anyone left on the board. At league meetings, their head coach may have tipped his hand and hinted at who the Chargers want.

The consensus is that the Chargers need a wide receiver at No. 5 after Mike Williams and Keenan Allen both exited. Another route is offensive line help and dating back to his time at Michigan, Harbaugh has valued the offensive line.

Harbaugh speaks about the offensive line being the only position in the NFL that doesn’t need to rely on anyone else to do their job, unlike other position groups that do need to rely on others.

“Building that kind of offensive line, that is exciting and I can’t wait to do that. April 2nd … let’s get it started … let’s go,” Harbaugh said.

Joe Alt out of Notre Dame is seen as the top offensive lineman in the draft class and very well could be the first non-quarterback to hear his name called.

The A to Z Sports’ recent mock draft has the Chargers taking Alt with a good explanation. 

“Even with some newfound needs at the wide receiver position, this move is a no-brainer for the Chargers as they seek to rebuild themselves in the mold of Jim Harbaugh and OC Greg Roman. They want to build a strong running game to complement what Justin Herbert brings to the table and attack defenses that prioritize building out their sub-packages. Building this roster through the trenches will be the quickest way to get them to a point where they can compete in the AFC West.” - Charles Goldman

The Chargers franchise is still behind center in Justin Herbert and they need to protect him like that’s what he is. Additionally, you know Harbaugh is going to want to run rock and it takes a good offensive line to pave the way.

Los Angeles is in a great spot to add a blue-chip talent in the draft and Harbaugh may have the exact player he’d like to see his team take in mind.
