Jets sign one-time Pro Bowl LB Kwon Alexander to one-year deal

The New York Jets have reportedly bolstered their defense by adding a former Pro Bowler to the linebacking corp.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Jets have agreed to a one-year contract with veteran linebacker Kwon Alexander

Alexander joining the Jets doesn't come as much of a surprise. The 27-year-old visited the team in mid-April, and reports in May suggested the Jets were interested in signing Alexander.

Also, Alexander has a connection with Jets head coach Robert Saleh. While Alexander was with the San Francisco 49ers (2019, 2020), he played under Saleh, then the Niners defensive coordinator, for parts of two seasons.

Alexander played last season with the New Orleans Saints, posting 50 tackles, 3.5 sacks, an interception and a forced fumble over 12 games.

A seven-year veteran, Alexander was drafted in the fourth round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers out of LSU in 2015. His only Pro Bowl season came in 2017, when he posted a career-high three interceptions.

Over 78 career NFL games for the Buccaneers, 49ers and Saints, Alexander has compiled 521 tackles, 12.0 sacks, 10 forced fumbles, eight interceptions and one Pro Bowl appearance (2017).
