Jets Make Two Pregame Moves, Setting Available Roster for Week 5

The New York Jets are calling up some insurance from the Practice Squad for their Week 5 road test against the Denver Broncos.

On Saturday afternoon, the Jets announced one gameday PS elevation for each side of the ball. Cornerback Craig James and receiver Irvin Charles are available for action when the Green & White face the Broncos on October 8 at Mile High Stadium.

With starting cornerback D.J. Reed and backup Brandon Echols unavailable, James will bolster the ranks of the Jets' secondary. The 27-year-old James has 21 regular season appearances to his credit, but none after the 2020 season.

"We have confidence in all the DBs, whether it's moving people around or however we have to shuffle it. We've got a lot of guys who have played a lot of fooball in this league and have played at a very high level, so we'll be fine," said head coach Robert Saleh on Friday in Florham Park.

James, who spent the 2022 campaign on the Jets' Practice Squad, was re-added to the unit on October 3. He played in all four preseason games for the Jets this past summer.

Meanwhile, Charles is likely needed for his special teams prowess with Echols being out. The second-year pro made Gang Green's 53-man roster out of training camp and was a gameday inactive in Week 1.

Charles lost his roster spot when backup quarterback Tim Boyle was called up prior to the Week 2 game at Dallas. The Jets brought Charles back on a PS deal on September 20. The Garden State product made three catches for 61 yards in preseason action.

The Jets and the Broncos will square off at 4:25 pm ET on CBS.
