Jason Kelce regrets decision to retire following Philadelphia Eagles’ decision to sign RB Saquon Barkley
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

Jason Kelce’s decision to retire may have been a bit premature. The center for the Philadelphia Eagles recently announced he is walking away from the game after spending 13 seasons in the city of Brotherly Love.

Well, just days after he announced his intent to retire, the Eagles have decided to go all in by making this one of their most productive off-seasons in recent history.

The team recently signed RB Saquon Barkley to a three-year deal worth $37 million. This deal was historic because the team has not been known to shell out huge amounts on RBs in the past.

In addition to Saquon Barkley, C.J. Gardner-Johnson has returned to the team from the Detroit Lions and will strengthen the team. In light of these additions, Jason Kelce is feeling left out and cannot help but have second thoughts about his decision to walk away from the game.

The center revealed via the New Heights podcast that he is certain the team is going to do well in the upcoming season.

This is what I’m regretting. I knew when I retired that I was going to miss just an outstanding season for the Philadelphia Eagles. And it sucks, I want to be a part of this so bad.

Uh oh, does this mean fans will get to see Jason Kelce renege on his retirement decision? Will he pull a Tom Brady and announce that he intends to come back for one final season?

Jason Kelce feels enticed to return after the Philadelphia Eagles brought RB Saquon Barkley on board

With the arrival of Saquon Barkley in Philly, the team’s fans are hyped once again. Last season was nothing short of a disaster for the team as they faltered in the second half of the season and the playoffs.

With the adjustments the team has made this offseason, the Eagles should be able to take off with ease from the first game of the next season.

Barkley’s deal gives him a signing bonus of $11.625 million, a gully guaranteed $26 million, and a base salary of $1.37 million in 2024, $11 million in 2025, and $12 million in 2026.

The Eagles are yet to make any decision concerning their center position. For over a decade, they did not have to worry about that position because Jason Kelce was the most reliable option for the team.

With his decision to walk away from the game, the Eagles will now need to ensure that position is taken care of as well. Kelce has the franchise record for the most consecutive starts with 157, he earned six All-Pro first-team nominations and is a Super Bowl champion.

It is very unlikely that he will come back to play given that the decision to step away took him quite some time to make. But one thing is certain, it will be exciting to see the Philadelphia Eagles play next season.
