Jared Goff: Matter of Time Before Lions Jameson Williams Breaks Out

Detroit Lions' second-year wideout Jameson Williams has yet to make a splash in the postseason, but a closer look reveals a more complete player in recent weeks. 

Rather than simply being deployed on deep routes, Williams has shown a diversified route tree and ability to handle contested catches. He hauled in two passes for 35 yards against the Buccaneers, including a comeback route on which he took a big hit. 

Williams has notched two catches in each of Detroit's playoff games for a total of 54 yards. 

Goff has seen these developments throughout the year, and believes that a true breakout game could be in short order for the talented receiver. 

"I think he's just become a part of the offense now, where we don't have to just send him deep or just send him on certain routes to do certain things," Goff said. "Like he can run every route we've got and does a great job with it. And he's developed really well this year and continues to get better. Every week, he gets better and better. He's getting better and learning and improving and it's just a matter of time until he has one of those breakout games where everything comes together."

Addressing the haters

The Lions have captivated the national audience with their run to the NFC Championship game.

As the proverbial underdog among the four teams remaining in the hunt for the Super Bowl, the Lions have become the favorite amongst the national fans without a rooting interest in the remaining teams.

However, not all are optimistic about Detroit's chances against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. In particular, Skip Bayless dismissed the Lions as having no chance to beat the favored 49ers.

"Congrats Lions," Bayless wrote on social media Sunday. "You have won the right to get blown out at San Francisco. But, hey, great year."

While that dig could lead to more motivation for the Lions, quarterback Jared Goff told 97.1 The Ticket's Karsch and Anderson Show that he's not concerned with outsider opinions such as that.

"No, I don't care about anything he says," Goff said Tuesday. "You can stop now. Anything those guys say on daytime TV, you can skip over that."
