Jaguars teammate: Trevor Lawrence has 'once-in-a-generation arm'

To say there is pressure on Trevor Lawrence to turn the Jacksonville Jaguars around is nothing short of an understatement.

But even though he hasn't played a snap yet for Jacksonville, the first-overall draft pick is already receiving some high praise.

One source of that acclaim is Jacksonville linebacker Joe Schobert, who says if Lawrence can have the mental toughness to match his playing ability, his rookie season will be a success.

“Trevor’s got an arm, a once-in-a-generation arm," Schobert said in an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio, "and if he can put it together upstairs mentally for the rookie season in the NFL, which is always, as a quarterback, the hardest thing to do, (then) we’ll be very successful if we can get all that accomplished.”

Schobert, a five-year veteran, knows a thing or two about having mental toughness on a team with a losing record. He spent his rookie season playing for the 1-15 Cleveland Browns and last season playing for the 1-15 Jaguars.

It is Schobert's belief that if Lawrence has a successful rookie campaign, he won't just help the Jaguars win but also secure a long-standing starting job in Jacksonville.

“I think if he’s able to mentally put everything together, like picking up a new playbook, understanding teams, and going against different kinds of athletes on the defensive side of the ball, he can be an extremely good quarterback for the next, 10, 15, 20 years for Jacksonville," Schobert continued. "It’s going to be exciting to see how he progresses because he has all the tools and all the talent.”

Training camp kicks off for the Jaguars on Tuesday, July 27.
