Jaguars starter apologizes for suspension

Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Cam Robinson was handed a four-game suspension on Thursday for violating the league's performance enhancing drug policy, and it is going to have a significant financial penalty as well.

He will lose $3.55 million in base salary while the suspension will void all guaranteed money left on his deal.

It was expected that Robinson would be suspended, but the number of games was an unknown until Thursday.

Robinson has been a key starter on the Jaguars offensive line since 2017 and is a respected veteran in the locker room. Shortly after it was announced, he issued an apology for the suspension in a statement.

“As a veteran leader in the locker room, I always want to set a good example and my actions in this instance are not a reflection of that goal,” Robinson said. “I apologize to the fans, my coaches and most importantly by teammates. It hurts me that I cannot be out there with my brothers at the start of the regular season. I will attack training camp the same way I have for the last six seasons to make sure I am ready both mentally and physically.”

The Jaguars used their first-round pick on Anton Harrison, and it is expected he will start in Robinson's absence.

The good news for the Jaguars is that three of their first four games of their schedule are winnable. They play the Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, Atlanta Falcons and Houston Texans during that stretch. Other than the Chiefs, those were three of the worst teams in the NFL a year ago.

Jacksonville has massive expectations entering this season after winning the AFC South a year ago and defeating the Los Angeles Chargers in a wild-card game. Not only is young quarterback Trevor Lawrence on the threshold of stardom, but he also has a top wide receiver joining the offense when Calvin Ridley makes his debut with the team.
