Jaguars Open Christian Braswell's Window to Return From IR
USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars could be getting some reinforcements in the secondary.

After the Jaguars saw two cornerbacks -- Tyson Campbell (quad) and Tre Herndon (concussion) -- get injured in Monday night's 34-31 overtime loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, the Jaguars have designated rookie cornerback Christian Braswell to return from Injured Reserve.

Braswell was originally placed on the Reserve/Injured list on Oct. 14.

He has appeared in three games this season, (Week 2-4) where he saw action on special teams. The Jaguars originally selected Braswell in the sixth round (202nd overall) of the 2023 Draft.

As a senior in 2022, Braswell played in all 12 games and started five, being named honorable mention All-Big Ten as he led the team with 11 pass breakups and three interceptions.

Braswell didn't play in 2021 due to a knee injury, though he played six games at Temple in 2020 and recorded 21 tackles.

Braswell could figure into the team's slot cornerback role, where Herndon started the first 12 games. Herndon was replaced on Monday Night Football by Gregory Junior and Antonio Johnson, though no indication has been given yet on who could replace Herndon in Week 14 vs. the Cleveland Browns.

“Well, Antonio Johnson came in because Greg Junior was cramping during the game. He was the next guy up there," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said on Tuesday.

"But yeah, you’d still like to get Antonio some work whether he’s playing the nickel spot or possibly the safety spot. With Tre being in protocol right now, this would be a great opportunity for both of those guys to continue to work.”
