Jaguars' Doug Pederson: Walker Little 'Had a Good Week' Practicing at LG
USA TODAY Sports

There seems to be real momentum for the Jacksonville Jaguars to start Cam Robinson and Walker Little next to each other for the first time this Sunday vs. the Buffalo Bills.

Robinson was reinstated by the NFL this week after serving a four-game suspension and head coach Doug Pederson has been complimentary of his return to practice. With Robinson likely back in the lineup, that could mean Little moves to left guard for the first time in his career after spending the first four games of the season at left tackle.

"Cam [Robinson] had a good week, Walker [Little] in there at left guard. We got one more day right there, we haven’t made a final determination yet there," Pederson said on Friday. "Cam has done a nice job, we get through tomorrow and see where he’s at mentally. Physically, he had a good week. Walker had a good week in there at left guard.”

"We’ll just see and go back and look at the tape today, Cam had a good week. We will get through tomorrow and make sure that we’re all on board and comfortable with making that move.”

This would be the third position Little has taken snaps at in his Jaguars career, with the vast majority of his snaps coming at left tackle but with a half of football at right tackle, too.

Asking a life-time left tackle to suddenly move inside to guard is far from ideal, but it does seem like the likely direction the Jaguars head in after Little had a strong first month of the season.

“That’s a real concern, but just going through the week of preparation, those two guys working together. It gives you a little bit more comfort knowing what we’ve seen as a staff, obviously you guys don’t get a chance to watch that part of it," Pederson said said.

"We do feel comfortable with where Cam [Robinson] is and maybe not so much Cam but Walker. Walker kicking down a whole new position for him at this point. He’s been our swing tackle a year ago, he was our starting left tackle for the first four games. We’ll see after tomorrow where he is there.”

If Little starts at guard, he would be the third different player to start at left guard in three weeks after Ben Bartch started in Week 3 and Tyler Shatley started in Week 4.

“He’s a security blanket just within the staff, of knowing he can align in multiple spots," Jaguars offensive coordinator Press Taylor said this week.

"Being able to play left tackle and right tackle is not as easy as people think. Now, you are right hand dominant on the right side and left hand on the left side. That’s a little harder than I think people would realize. Being able to move inside where there’s less space and everything is constricted, everything happens faster. A guy that can handle that and do that at a high level is really invaluable for us.”
