Jacksonville Jaguars Reward Playmaking Defensive End with Massive 5-Year Extension
Bob Self / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Jacksonville Jaguars lock up one of their elite franchise players for the next five years by extending Josh Allen.

Defensive end Josh Allen, not quarterback Josh Allen, has been a staple on the Jaguars defense for the last five years.

Throughout Allen’s first five seasons he has totaled 45 sacks and 251 total tackles. He was rewarded this morning with a contract extension fit for an elite defender.

Jacksonville Jaguars extend Allen

Allen was initially franchise tagged heading into the 2024 season. Word around NFL media is that a deal was one of the main goals for the Jaguars this offseason. They succeeded.

Allen signs a five year $150 million deal with up to $88 million in guarantees.

Allen now becomes the third highest paid defensive players on a per-year basis, only behind Nick Bosa and Chris Jones.

Saying Goodbye to Franchise Tags

According to Adam Schefter, seven of nine players initially franchise tagged have now reached extension with their team (or team traded to).

Seven of the nine players who were tagged this offseason now have signed long-term deals:

  • Jaguars’ Josh Allen: 5-years, $150 million.
  • Giants’ Brian Burns (trade): 5-years, $141M
  • Titans’ L’Jarius Sneed (trade): 4-years, $76.4M
  • Ravens’ Justin Madubuike: 4-years, $98M
  • Bears’ Jaylon Johnson: 4-years, $76M
  • Colts’ Michael Pittman Jr.: 3-years, $70M
  • Patriots’ Kyle Dugger: 4-years, $58M.
