Insider claims Giants have already made decision on QB's future

The New York Giants reportedly could either trade up from the sixth overall pick of this year's NFL Draft for a quarterback or select a signal-caller at No. 6 who would eventually replace current starter Daniel Jones.

During Monday's edition of "The Rich Eisen Show," the NFL Network personality reported that he heard at the combine over the past week that the Giants are "done with Daniel Jones."

"They do not have any intention of being all-in on him anymore," Eisen added about the Giants-Jones relationship. Eisen acknowledged that Jones may nevertheless play for the Giants through at least the 2024 season because of the four-year contract he signed last March.

The Giants can escape Jones' deal next offseason. He is recovering from a torn ACL he suffered on Nov. 5, and he's missed a total of nine games since the start of the 2021 campaign because of neck-related injuries.

"Use him as the bridge quarterback," Eisen added about Jones. "They may have to go with him even if they draft a quarterback. But I heard that last year, (the Giants) were done (with Jones)."

Eisen also suggested that Giants general manager Joe Schoen may trade with the New England Patriots to grab the third overall pick in the draft that could be used to acquire Jayden Daniels of the LSU Tigers, Drake Maye of the North Carolina Tar Heels or J.J. McCarthy of the Michigan Wolverines.

Interestingly, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated and Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports both linked the Patriots with McCarthy in pieces published on Monday. Additionally, Wilson predicted in an updated mock draft that the Minnesota Vikings will move up to the fifth overall pick to take Maye before the Giants are called to use choice No. 6. If such a scenario played out in real life, Big Blue theoretically could trade down in the draft order and target a quarterback such as Michael Penix Jr. of the Washington Huskies.

Wilson believes the Seattle Seahawks could take a flier on Penix Jr. late in the draft's first round.
