Former Tennessee Vols QB lands starting job in the United Football League

Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Jarrett Guarantano received some good news this week.

Guarantano, who played at Tennessee from 2016 to 2020, was named the starting quarterback of the Houston Roughnecks on Wednesday.

Houston plays in the United Football League, which was born from the merger between the USFL and the XFL.

"In the end, the body of work that Jarrett put forth, I think he deserves to start," said Roughnecks head coach Curtis Johnson.

Guarantano, who finished his college career at Washington State in 2021, spent some time in the NFL during the 2022 season, landing on the Arizona Cardinals' practice squad before eventually signing with the Denver Broncos.

The former Vol didn't see any action in an NFL regular season game, but he was promoted to the Broncos' active roster late in the 2022 season.

UFL play will begin on March 30. The Roughnecks will play their first game on March 31 against the Memphis Showboats. The Game will air on ESPN at 3:00 PM ET.
