Former Steelers LB Vince Williams Thinks Current Offensive Hall Of Famers Need Asterisk By Their Name
Philip G. Pavely-USA TODAY Sports

Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker, Vince Williams took to social media to express his latest feelings on how the NFL is changing. James Harrison recently went off on Not Just Football with Cam Heyward, ranting about his own experiences with the league cracking down on big hits. Williams has joined in, letting his frustrations out, posting a thread about supposed "player safety" concerns.

Another Steelers Defender Is Angry at NFL Like Harrison

Williams has had his own sample of big plays on defense in his career. Now that he's not going off on running backs or kick returners on the field, he's going off on the NFL as a whole on social media. The initial comments seem to stem from the Thursday Night Football game in Week 11 that caused multiple star players' seasons to end via injury.

"New Flash football is a violent game with a 100% injury rate. Huge ppl run into each other as fast as they can. What do you think is going to happen?"

John Harbaugh lashed out at Logan Wilson for his hip-drop tackle that ended Mark Andrews' season. While the hit was unfortunate, there was nothing that Wilson could do besides not tackle him.

The NFL can't prevent injuries, even if they end up playing Flag Football, like some players think they're doing. There can always be a torn ACL, or a sprained ankle, or other injuries that don't come from hard contact. Williams even acknowledged the player safety aspect to continue his rant.

"I understand the concerns about player safety, but we must approach game modifications cautiously, particularly regarding physicality. We should avoid reaching a point where today's game becomes incomparable to its past iterations."

Sure, the NFL doesn't need to go back to the old days where purposefully injuring players was not frowned upon, but the hitting and physicality should still be a part of the game. Defensive players get flagged for making clean hits way too often. If the NFL keeps going in the direction they are going, playing legal defense at all would be borderline impossible.

"Current offensive Hall of Famers may require an asterisk next to their achievements due to the differences in how they achieved their stats compared to pre P football."

If you ask Williams, playing offense is already too easy in the modern NFL. Life becomes so much easier for these offensive playmakers when they know that they can make certain plays without the defensive player being forced to second guess themselves due to threats of fines and penalties. Williams decided to take it one step further.

The defense's inability to make certain clean plays makes it so much easier to rack up offensive stats. Williams thinks that the problem should lead to the Hall of Fame stepping in. Why glorify players that can run free due to the defense being unable to deliver big, clean hits?

With the NFL showing what is and is not considered roughing the passer, along with the future hip-drop ban, Williams might have some points to his rants. Either way, the NFL will likely take a look at that Bengals-Ravens game and use that contest to promote more rules preventing the defense from tackling their opponents even more.
