Former SEC football coach arrested at hotel, per report

Former Kentucky head football coach Hal Mumme was arrested at the Hyatt Hotel in Lexington early Friday, according to a report from WKYT.

Mumme is facing charges of criminal trespassing and resisting arrest.

Police said that Mumme was asked to leave the building and refused, and that he got physical with officers when they tried to arrest him.

Mumme coached the Kentucky football team for four seasons, from 1997 to 2000, when he resigned amid allegations he violated NCAA rules.

He left UK with a 20-26 record, went 10-22 in SEC games, and 0-2 in bowl games, but is known for helping quarterback Tim Couch come to prominence.

Couch developed into the No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick in 1999 to Cleveland.

Mumme is considered an innovator of the "Air Raid offense" and was a mentor of current Mississippi State coach Mike Leach.
