Former Packers WR defends Jordan Love on Colin Cowherd's show

The criticism came from one play, perhaps the only bad throw out of 10 that Love made. According to Cowherd, it was such a terrible mistake that he believes the young quarterback should up and quit the game of football altogether.

Of course, Cowherd is known for being purposefully over the top. If one would like the see how the legitimately wonderful things Cowherd had to say about Love leading up to the 2020 NFL Draft, I wrote about them Wednesday.

Former Green Bay Wide Receiver James Jones Defends Love on Cowherd’s Show

Jones was a guest on “The Herd” Wednesday and, of course, was asked about his thoughts regarding Love’s performance on Friday night. Cowherd started the question by referring to the errant pass to tight end Luke Musgrave, which was the basis for his rant. Viewers could see Cowherd deflate as Jones began praising Love’s performance:

“That’s a bad play. We can’t lie about that. That’s a bad play. But other than that, everything I seen from Jordan Love is exactly what I wanted to see.

“You come out there, you have a bad play. First off, I absolutely loved the go-ball shot that he took to Christian Watson. Really good play by the safety to get his hand on it, but that’s inches away from being a touchdown.

“But if you look at [Love], super comfortable in the pocket. He’s looking the safety off, then comes back over there to Christian Watson. Safety does a really good job making a play.

“But even after that he still comes back and he made a couple really good throws, obviously the touchdown to Romeo Doubs. But we just wanted to see the demand. We wanted to see the cool and calm. He looked the part. He looked okay to me.”

Obviously, that was not what Cowherd wanted to hear. 

He said, “Well, I don’t want to be negative, because that’s not who I am,” and then he changed the subject to 49ers QB Trey Lance.

One has to wonder what Cowherd was expecting Jones, a former Packers player, to say. It obviously wasn’t that, which is OK, because Jones spoke the truth.
