Former App State DB Josh Thomas Signs With CFL Team

Former Appalachian State safety Josh Thomas is headed to the Canadian Football League. Thomas was signed by the Calgary Stampeders on Tuesday.

Thomas played five seasons for App State 2015-2019. He was a two-time team captain, finishing his college career with seven interceptions, 7.5 tackles for loss, 14 pass breakups, and 163 total tackles. His one and only touchdown was a 16-yard interception return against Louisiana in the 2019 Sun Belt Championship. Thomas went undrafted in 2020.

Thomas appeared in two regular season games for the Buffalo Bills in 2020 and made one tackle. In 2022, Thomas played in two regular season games for the Arizona Cardinals and made four tackles. He was a member of the Carolina Panthers for the 2023 NFL preseason.

Calgary finished the 2023 regular season with a record of 6-12, losing in the first round of the league playoffs. 

CFL training camps for the upcoming season are set to open on Sunday, May 14, 2024.
