Former Minnesota Vikings cornerback Trae Waynes is defending himself after backlash over a video in which he claims to have taken a rifle shot at a Bud Light beer.

Waynes, an avid outdoorsman who has gone from pro football player to the co-owner of a hunting business in west-central Wisconsin, has taken flack after he woke up Sunday morning and posted video himself using a Bud Light beer for target practice.

"Bud [Light] target practice lol," Waynes tweeted along with an 11-second video.

The video drew immediate criticism from followers who believe Waynes was using the Bud Light can as a political statement.

Bud Light has been the subject of controversy since Anheuser Busch ran a commercial in April featuring transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, prompting conservatives to call for a boycott of the brand.

Waynes tweeted mid-afternoon Sunday in response to all the criticism.

"If I shoot a [Coors Light] will [y'all] quit crying?" Waynes wrote, adding [I] enjoy shooting guns get over it [y'all] clowns looking to deep in to s***."

Waynes was drafted 11th overall by the Vikings in 2015. He played for Minnesota through 2019 and later played one season in 2021 with the Bengals. He's now the co-owner of Home Grown Outfitters & Love The Grind TV, a hunting and outdoors company that operates on 22 farm properties in Buffalo County, Wisconsin.

The company website says Waynes has a deep passion for wildlife habitat improvement and "helping clients harvest record book deer grows.
