Ex-Steelers CB Joe Haden claims Baker Mayfield, after a stellar season for the Bucs, deserves $25-30 million a year
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

Looks like Baker Mayfield has found his advocate in former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback. While the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are coming to the decision to re-sign the veteran quarterback to a lucrative long-term deal, Joe Haden laid out the numbers that he believes Mayfield deserves

When the legend Tom Brady made the decision to retire from the NFL after 23 glorious seasons, the Bucs had a tough decision to make. They searched for prospects to step into the GOAT’s footsteps, though it was next to impossible to expect. But despite the reputation quarterback Mayfield carried after what happened with the Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay decided to give him a chance.

Boy, they were right! Not only did Mayfield lead the Bucs to the postseason with a 9-8 record, but he also advanced to the divisional round with a nominal victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in the wildcard round of the playoffs.

With the veteran QB proving his ability to follow the footsteps of the winningest quarterback in NFL history, the Bucs decided to re-sign him, but this time on a long-term basis. Before the franchise moved towards the decision of money, a three-time Pro Bowler jumped in and told TMZ Sports, what he believed Mayfield should deserve.

Haden said:

I think Baker Mayfield should get a contract, for sure. Baker, 25-30 million dollars a year, 100% to take a team to the playoffs. I think give him some dough. Joe Haden said

Where will Baker Mayfield play next season?

During this recent Combine, one of the hot topics for discussion has been Mayfield future in the NFL. While the Bucs sure are interested in bringing him back as they ought to keep the winnable spirit alive, there are not the only options available to the 28-year-old quarterback.

As per the consensus, the veteran quarterback is expected to earn nearly $40 million annually, while the Combine anticipates the numbers to be around $34-$36 million, however, there hasn’t been any official announcement.

One of the prime suitors to pursue Mayfield is the Atlanta Falcons – Bucs’ rivals. On the contrary, the franchise is also linked to Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears. If the Bears decided to pass on their No. 1 Draft pick, Mayfield would become the top prospect for the Falcons.
