Evan Engram on End of Jaguars Season: 'It Stings Every Sunday These Playoff Games Come On'
USA TODAY Sports

Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Evan Engram had quite the week.

After making history with 100 receptions in 2023, Engram found out this week that he would be joining the rest of the NFL's elite in Orlando as a Pro Bowler after Travis Kelce needed to be replaced.

Engram had a great weekend, too, even catching a touchdown in the Pro Bowl flag football game. But, as Engram said this weekend, the goal was to never be available this weekend. And Engram maybe could have skipped out on the games completely if the Jaguars didn't falter down the stretch, losing five of their last six games after an 8-3 start.

"Yeah. It stings every Sunday these playoff games come on. The goal is not to be here. You want to be getting ready for next week," Engram said this week.

"But yeah, I think it will be a good -- it's a great learning experience for us. I think it's a humbling thing that will push us in the right direction."

Engram was the second tight end in franchise history to be named to the Pro Bowl, joining TE Marcedes Lewis (2010), and the 35th Pro Bowler in franchise history.

Engram was also joined this week by Jaguars outside linebacker Josh Allen and Jaguars long snapper Ross Matiscik, who attended their second and first Pro Bowl games respectively.

In 2023, Engram posted 114 receptions for 963 receiving yards and four touchdowns. His 114 catches led all NFL tight ends and he also set franchise records for receptions and receiving yards in a season by a tight end. Engram became the eighth tight end in NFL history and the first tight end in franchise history to eclipse 100 receptions. This is Engram’s second appearance in the Pro Bowl after being named to the team following the 2020 season.

"I think just a lot of execution. Just a lot of small details," Engram said about the Jaguars' collapse.

"Obviously we did not do a good job of protecting the football. That has to get better. Definitely have to improve the run game. I say that with my chest because I am a part of it as well. Be more efficient and consistent in the run game. Yeah, there's a lot of things that we got to get better at."
