Ereck Flowers on going back to Washington: 'This is best for me'

Ereck Flowers is heading back to the team that helped resurrect his NFL career. The former first-round offensive lineman was traded to the Washington Football Team from the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday.

Washington and the Dolphins also swapped seventh-round picks. Flowers restructured his contract, moving $6 million into a signing bonus for the Dolphins to pay. Washington will pay his $3 million in base pay for 2021.

Speaking to NFL insider Josina Anderson, Flowers said going back to Washington is “best” for his career.

Flowers spent the 2019 campaign with Washington after struggling four seasons with the New York Giants. In Washington, he switched from tackle to guard.

He thrived in his new role under offensive line coach-turned-interim head coach Bill Callahan. Flowers signed a three-year, $30 million deal with the Dolphins in the following offseason.

Now he rejoins the offensive line room mostly intact from his previous time there. Flowers will also get to work more intensely with current Washington offensive line coach John Matsko.

While Matsko wasn’t in Washington in 2019, Flowers worked with him during the Carolina Panthers’ predraft evaluation for the 2015 draft, according to Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post.

Nonetheless, Flowers appeared to enjoy his time in Washington. Going back with a strong coaching staff will be best for furthering his pro career.
