Defensive tackle Jarran Reed has only had the Seattle Seahawks as an NFL home since Seattle selected him in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Per Joe Fann of NBC Sports Northwest, Reed has one year and $13.975 million remaining on his contract, meaning the 28-year-old could soon become a salary-cap casualty.
Reed recently told the "Talkin’ Seahawks Podcast" that he'd like to avoid such an ending to his Seattle tenure if possible.
"Who knows," Reed said of his future. "I want to be here long-term for sure. I just control what I can control, and everything will work itself out. I’ve been a Seahawks my whole career, and that’s how I want it to stay."
Reed left quite a positive impression when it mattered most, as 5.5 of the 6.5 sacks he tallied during the 2020 season occurred over Seattle's final nine regular-season games. He then added a pair of quarterback takedowns in the 30-20 playoff defeat to the Los Angeles Rams.
For what it's worth, Fann twice said it's "unlikely" the Seahawks will part ways with Reed ahead of a time when they're expected to once again compete for more than just a postseason appearance. Instead, Seattle could look to lower Reed's cap hit for 2021 by extending him beyond the upcoming season, the final campaign on his current deal.
