Detroit Lions David Montgomery Will Not Return against Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Kirthmon F. Dozier / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Detroit Lions must find a way to defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers without the services of one of their best offensive weapons.

Unfortunately, David Montgomery, who started his career in Motown on fire, left the game in the second quarter with an apparent rib injury.

While the veteran running back chose to not leave the game on a cart, Detroit's free-agent acquisition was officially ruled out of action.

Craig Reynolds and Devine Ozigbo are now tasked with shouldering the load in the run game, as the stout Buccaneers' defense has been swarming to the football all afternoon.

Montgomery missed game action against the Seattle Seahawks, after battling a thigh injury earlier this season.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell indicated the chemistry on Lions' roster has made it so that those stepping in are willing to fight for their teammates.

"I want guys in here that people want to fight for, and you’d do anything for because that guy lays it on the line every freaking practice, every game, every – and I feel like that’s the kind of guys we have here," said Campbell. "The guys that were here when we got here that we’ve retained. There’s a number of those, you just mentioned (Taylor) Decker. And then the free agents we brought in, the guys we’ve drafted and I just think that’s a big part of it."
