David Ojabo says Ravens legend denied request to wear former number

Heading into his second season with the Baltimore Ravens, linebacker David Ojabo wanted to wear his old college number.

The only problem with that is the No. 55 he wore as a Michigan Wolverine hasn’t been worn by a Ravens player since seven-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion Terrell Suggs.

“Suggs is not letting me (have his number),” Ojabo joked with reporters on Wednesday. “We had discussions, we got (Ravens owner Steve) Bisciotti involved a little bit, but that’s above me. He’s a legend, so I’m going to stick with (No.) 90. I tried, I had to try but he’s not going for it.”

Suggs is one of the most decorated defensive players in Ravens history. He was a two-time All-Pro selection and was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2011 and the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2003.

Suggs is the Ravens' all-time leader in sacks (132.5), tackles for loss (193), forced fumbles (33) and QB hits (191), and he ranks second in franchise history in tackles (855), fourth in fumble recoveries (14) and seventh in passes defensed (63).

A second-round pick of the Ravens in 2022, Ojabo was limited to just two games during his rookie season after recovering from a torn ACL. He appears to be content with keeping his No. 90, for now.

"Numbers don't really matter," Ojabo added. "It's what you do with the numbers."
