Davante Adams: 'I’ve been a Raiders fan all my life'

Davante Adams spent eight years with the Green Bay Packers and earned trips to the Pro Bowl in each of the last five seasons. But he reportedly turned down equal money from the Packers because he preferred to leave and join the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency.

"I grew up in East Palo Alto, I've been a Raiders fan all my life," Adams said during an introductory press conference Tuesday. "It was a dream to be a Raider. I said I wanted to be an NFL star, and I was wearing a Charles Woodson jersey at the time. I guess you could say it was meant to be."

Adams, 29, played high school football just a couple dozen miles away from the Raiders' former home of Oakland and played collegiately at Fresno State where Derek Carr was his quarterback. The duo combined for over 3,000 yards and 38 touchdowns in only two seasons before both were picked in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Last week, the Raiders gave up first- and second-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft to acquire Adams from the Packers and promptly signed the receiver to a five-year, $140 million contract. The trade came less than two weeks after Green Bay used the franchise tag to keep Adams from reaching free agency.

Adams finished the 2021 regular season with 123 receptions, 1,553 yards, and 11 touchdowns.
