Dan Quinn is the dark horse in Denver's HC search

Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn may be the favorite in Denver's head coaching search thanks to his familiarity with the organization and quarterback Russell Wilson.

Per Oddschecker, Quinn has the best odds to become Denver's next HC over Michigan HC Jim Harbaugh and former Saints HC Sean Payton. Although Harbaugh and Payton are more distinguished, Quinn interviewed for the HC job last year and left a strong impression even though Denver hired Nathaniel Hackett.

"Quinn has a close relationship with Broncos general manager George Paton and would be a strong candidate for the job if he's willing to engage with Denver again," wrote NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

According to longtime Broncos reporter Mike Klis, the Broncos plan to interview Quinn on Friday. He can use Wilson liking him and his eye for offensive talent as a selling point.

Quinn was a DC in Seattle when Wilson won Super Bowl XLVIII. Wilson recently raved about Quinn, saying "he's an amazing coach, amazing person, amazing soul."

Developing a rapport with Wilson will be pertinent for Denver's next HC and finding the right offensive coaching staff, something Quinn did when he was Atlanta HC.

Although he's a defensive mind, Quinn had 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan, Packers HC Matt LaFleur, and Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel on his offensive staff in 2016 when the Falcons made their second Super Bowl appearance.

Wilson needs an offensive brain trust, especially after throwing a career-low 16 touchdown passes this season.

Additionally, the Broncos don't have to trade draft picks to hire him. Payton is under contract through 2024, and the Saints will ask for multiple draft picks.

Perhaps Quinn is the right candidate for Denver.
