Craig Carton responds to Eagles' denial amid collapse controversy

FS1 and WFAN personality Craig Carton offered multiple responses after somebody associated with the Philadelphia Eagles strongly denied that Carton has any inside information about the collapse of the 2023 squad.

"Considering I never said what the situation was, what exactly are the Eagles denying? I don’t know what the Eagles are denying," Carton told Erich Richter of the New York Post. "Just because the team is denying something and saying it didn’t happen, we should believe them?"

The drama started when Carton said on the Tuesday edition of his FS1 program that the Eagles dealt with "a problem that would splinter any group of men" as they fell from 10-1 to 11-6 ahead of a one-and-done playoff trip. Carton added the issue "cannot be fixed," and he also said that "it will be very interesting to see if a high-profile player is no longer with the Eagles going into this season."

ESPN's Adam Schefter later revealed during a radio interview he "texted somebody" within the Eagles who told him that "none of that S-word happened." Schefter also said at that time that he couldn't confirm or deny if somebody was "sleeping with someone else’s woman."

The story took a different turn on Wednesday when Eagles insider Derrick Gunn shared via X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, that he had heard quarterback Jalen Hurts was "pulled in numerous directions" and "didn’t handle" a lot of pressure after Hurts signed a five-year contract extension reportedly worth up to $255M with $179.3M guaranteed last offseason. It was previously suggested that Hurts "changed" after inking the extension and "should have been a better leader" this past season.

There's more. Gunn also reported that the suspension of Eagles director of security Dom DiSandro following DiSandro's altercation with San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw in Week 13 resulted in Philadelphia head coach Nick Sirianni getting into "numerous arguments with players/coaches during games" because DiSandro routinely helped "control" Sirianni's emotions on the sidelines.

"The fact that this has become such a big deal is comical," Carton told The Post. "When (Schefter) called (Eagles general manager) Howie Roseman, what story did he ask him about in relation to what I said? I was very specific not to reveal what I know to be true. So again, what is 'total S' and what is being denied?"

Carton made similar comments and also spoke about the DiSandro matter during Thursday's episode of his FS1 show.

While outsiders may never know exactly what sunk the 2023 Eagles, it's clear rumors and whispers about the team aren't quieting down as springtime approaches.
